My Three Truths

This morning I was reading a blog post on how to discover your purpose. The author’s premise  was that if you discovered your truths, you’d find your purpose.

I found this to be an interesting exercise. The thought of what my truths were chased me through most of my morning and early afternoon. After sitting with the question this is the answer for me.

  1. There is always something to share. It doesn’t matter what your finances or education are, we all have something to share. I use share rather than give because giving often implies a gift or some kind of monetary connection (to me). However we can share our thoughts, our knowledge, time, talents, hearts, and souls. Just like the “Little Drummer Boy.” To me sharing is the ultimate gift and should be re-gifted!
  2. There is always something to learn. There’s an old adage that goes;” If you’re not growing you’re going.”  We use that a lot in my martial arts school but its true in all areas of our lives. If we look to learn something new each day we build our spirit, minds and knowledge base. We can look to the lessons nature gives us, or a lesson we learned through our experience. Seeking out information through the internet is easy, look for interesting blogs, take an on line course on something that interests you.
  3. Everyone has a back story. Thinking this way, allows me to be empathetic, forgiving, and less likely to judge (I’m not saying I’ve never judged or lack forgiveness or empathy) I’m saying we don’t truly know anyone else but our selves and each individual comes with a back story or history that lead them to this time and place you now share. Be kind.

How do these three truths link into my purpose? I guess I’m willing to share my knowledge and learn from others with out judgement — Like a teacher… Strange that these truths add up to me being a martial arts teacher. I don’t think it’s strange at all I’m on purpose. More importantly sharing, my insights with total strangers in this blog is keeping me on purpose.

What are your truths and are you living your purpose. Remember we’re all not meant to be rock stars, athletes and celebrities most of us have far more important purposes…

No, it never occurred to me!

Did you ever read something and felt like you got hit in the head by a two by four? That’s what I felt like after I read the following Note from the Universe in my Love Your Life in 30 Days Workbook.

” Has it ever occurred to you that you could ask for more? Not just more than you now have, but more than you‘re now asking for? “

I actually read that and responded out loud, ” No, it never occurred to me!” Am I the only person who never realized this? Does anyone feel like me? Why hasn’t this occurred to me before? Was it my upbringing, my birth order (first child), my personality type (ENFJ) (see Myers Briggs), perhaps I always felt like I had enough, and to ask for more would be selfish.

I don’t even know why this is bothering me?

It seems I’ve always thought to make sure everyone else had what they want first. I would take what was left over. Funny I’m always willing to do more work, and ask if there is more work to be done.

If this insight is the only one I get from Mike Dooley and Hope Koppelman’s program then it was well worth the time, money and effort. This one insight has propelled me into new horizons — Just in time for my upcoming 60th birthday! Time to start asking the universe for MORE! Heck even if I just collect on the interest off my work! I’ll be set…

All kidding aside, check it out The work book is available on Amazon or go to tut.com and at least sign up for Notes from the Universe.

Random observations…

Today according to my Insight Timer I meditated with over 5,000 people — Score one for technology…

Wondering why so many people are purchasing live Christmas Trees to put up four weeks before Christmas, will they survive till Christmas?

What makes my car so appealing to birds to crap on it?

The gym is a great place to observe what makes people tick; fashionistas go to model new outfits, Muscle-Heads love to flex in the mirror, friends gossip more than work out, seniors walk the treadmil or ride the stationary bike watching Fox News, couples fall into he knows everything and she cleans the equipment, and everyone else looks like the either love or hate working out…

Even though I give to multiple charities personally and through my business, I still feel like a bitch when I say not today at the register when asked for a donation, (which I’ve already contributed to).

Less daylight gives me a sense of urgency to get outside, like Nature will close at 4pm…

Grocery stores on Sundays are the worst thing about Sundays…

Wish I had a Whoopie Pie,

Gratitude

What are you grateful for? Family, friends, possessions? My lesson to my students this week was to be grateful for their uniqueness, their special gifts. In this cookie cutter society where everyone looks to fit in by being like everyone else. We are losing our own identity. We need to wear logos and fit in. Even if fitting in means we ignore our hearts desire.

I often think how I would be if I never realized my passion for teaching leaving a nursing career to open a martial arts school. Going against the advice from well-meaning family and friends, leaving a sure thing for the unknown. Especially turning 40 and being female in a predominantly male profession.

I don’t think I’d be as healthy or as fulfilled. I did enjoy nursing but I wasn’t passionet about it. In fact I wasn’t passionet about anything until I started training in martial arts, and after I assisted with teaching, I discovered my purpose.

Which is why I had my students sit in quiet reflection, expressing gratitude for their unique gifts, there may be a future poet, actor, nurse and yes teacher among them. We must encourage children not to be ashamed of being different but to celebrate being different. We do that by sharing our gifts, and appreciating ourselves…

You can’t give from an empty heart…

Thank you for reading this 1st post, chase your dream, think about it…
