My Three Truths

This morning I was reading a blog post on how to discover your purpose. The author’s premise  was that if you discovered your truths, you’d find your purpose.

I found this to be an interesting exercise. The thought of what my truths were chased me through most of my morning and early afternoon. After sitting with the question this is the answer for me.

  1. There is always something to share. It doesn’t matter what your finances or education are, we all have something to share. I use share rather than give because giving often implies a gift or some kind of monetary connection (to me). However we can share our thoughts, our knowledge, time, talents, hearts, and souls. Just like the “Little Drummer Boy.” To me sharing is the ultimate gift and should be re-gifted!
  2. There is always something to learn. There’s an old adage that goes;” If you’re not growing you’re going.”  We use that a lot in my martial arts school but its true in all areas of our lives. If we look to learn something new each day we build our spirit, minds and knowledge base. We can look to the lessons nature gives us, or a lesson we learned through our experience. Seeking out information through the internet is easy, look for interesting blogs, take an on line course on something that interests you.
  3. Everyone has a back story. Thinking this way, allows me to be empathetic, forgiving, and less likely to judge (I’m not saying I’ve never judged or lack forgiveness or empathy) I’m saying we don’t truly know anyone else but our selves and each individual comes with a back story or history that lead them to this time and place you now share. Be kind.

How do these three truths link into my purpose? I guess I’m willing to share my knowledge and learn from others with out judgement — Like a teacher… Strange that these truths add up to me being a martial arts teacher. I don’t think it’s strange at all I’m on purpose. More importantly sharing, my insights with total strangers in this blog is keeping me on purpose.

What are your truths and are you living your purpose. Remember we’re all not meant to be rock stars, athletes and celebrities most of us have far more important purposes…
